Edward James Olmos Book Fest coming to Houston

    The Houston Latino Book & Family Festival offers book presentations, celebrity appearances and free samples from dozens of area companies.
     The event will be held
10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29, at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Admission is free.
     Visitors will be able to browse among seven villages: books, careers and education, culture, health, home, travel and technology.
     Presentations include “How to Jump Start Your Career,” and “What Latinos Need to Know to Apply for Grants.”
    
San Antonio Express-News' syndicated columnist, A&E reporter, author and Billboard correspondent Ramiro Burr is also on two panels: “What Latino Writers Need to Know to Get Published” and “Tejano Vs. Norteño: Viva la Diferencia.”
     Event founder
Edward James Olmos will present his book “Americanos: Latino Life in the United States ,” and comedian Cheech Marin will present his “Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge.”
     Saturday features a
5:30 p.m. performance by Houston-based rock-en-Español band Los Skarnales. Sunday at 2:30 p.m. , it's Barandua.
     The event is co-sponsored locally by Talento Bilingüe de Houston and Nuestra Palabra: Latino Writers Having Their Say.
