Pop/merengue singer Olga Tañón is in Italy this week as part of her "Evolution Tour 2008."

Tañón was invited to perform at the prestigious Festival Latinoamericano in Milan on July 5. Tañón she is also visiting the cities of Rome and Venice as part of her promotional tour through the country of Italy. Tañón's latest CD is the "Éxitos En 2 Tiempos," an album which received a gold record for top sales.

As detailed in a new release by Miami-based, BonnetMedia.com:

Olga Tañón, considered one of the top pop/merengue singers in the world, is also scheduled to perform July 17 at the Premios Juventud 2008 which will be broadcast live on the Univision Network.

Tañon began her career as a singer in Las Nenas de Ringo y Josie and later Chantell, an all-female group in the early '90s. In the world of salsa and tropical music, Tañon is one of the few and most successful singers who has recorded merengue, salsa and pop. In her almost two decade career she has won four American Grammys and two Latin Grammys.

In a previous interview I had with her, Olga Tañon also said she gets inspiration from her fans who write to her about their challenges and problems.

As an example, she pointed to a song "Desilusioname," from her :Soy Como Tu" CD, as a song describing a common situation -- the problem of trying to leave someone you still love.

"I think many people can relate to that (situation)," Tañon said. "It's about trying to forget someone you can't be with, and trying to find something to be angry about to help you forget them.

"It feels good to get letters from fans, and to be able to share with them. I try to respond to as many of them as I can. But there are also people who have no interest in my responding, because we often get letters signed 'anonymous,' without any names, or addresses. They only want to share their stories, or just let me know that they are living what I sing about. A little of everything."
