TMC: Scholarship announced, upcoming panelists

The Texas Music Coalition announced the winner of the $500 TMC Jack Skiles Music Studies Scholarship during their recent TMC Meet & Greet.

As reported in this TMC news release, the meet & greet had a full house with music by local tmclogow2.jpgand regional artists getting played by DJ Host Joe Barfield of KSYM Radio and the San Antonio Music, Art and Culinary Events Calendar.

The winner of the $500 TMC Jack Skiles Music Studies Scholarship was Aaron Carter-Cohn, with Roxanna Tehrani named as runner up. Several talented scholarship applicants, students ranging from high school to grad school, were also awarded certificates of participation.

These included included James F. Hopkins, Dana Renee Jones, Steve Sellers, Jr., Steve "Sin" Sinatra and Patrick Young.

A special treat that night was the playing of recordings by the late Jack Skiles, the master guitarist/entertainer and longtime TMC member for whom the TMC scholarship is named.

The gathering was held June 29 at Casa Chiapas www.casachiapas.net at 928 S. Alamo.

Key organizers and sponsors included Meet & Greet/Scholarship Chair Nikki Young of PrimaDonna Productions, Chadd Green, Lee Hurtado, Eddie Martinez of Casa Chiapas, Joe Barfield, Joe Wolf, and Daryl Archuleta and Dwayne Feuerbacher of Confusing Minerva.

Upcoming TMC events:

July 15: "Getting Immediate Radio Play for Your CD" panel. The Cove, 606 W. Cypress. 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15. Panelists: Robert (Bubba) Bartosh, Gordon Ames and Jim Beal. Free and open to the public; followed by an open mic hosted by Patrice Villastrigo, smorluv@yahoo.com.

Aug. 19: "Negotiating Music Industry Contracts, Securing Trademark Rights & Other Legal Aspects for Musicians," The Cove, 606 W. Cypress. 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, Panelists: entertainment attorneys TBA. Free.
