International Accordion Festival showcases various world styles

Accordion and conjunto music fans will be in hog heaven this weekend as the 2008 International Accordion Festival unfolds at La Villita.

GuzmanJoel3_accordions.jpgEach year the IAF feature almost two dozen artists, some from around the world, performing on multiple stages. There is a wide variety of music, from Creole and conjunto to tango and Serbian tunes, but the common instrument is the accordion.

The lineup is impressive and includes such groups as Conjunto Ritmos Santeños de Osvaldo Ayala, Curtis Poullard & Creole Zydeco Band, Jeremías Martín & Group, Charles Thibodeaux and the Austin Cajun Aces, Mexican Roots Trio, Kal, and Vrazels' Polka Band.

In addition. other groups include Amuma Says No, Rupa & the April Fishes, Paulino Bernal, Daddy Squeeze Trio, Neshko Neshev and Kalin Kirilov, Andrei Mihalache, Trio Roi Maceda, Joe Ely and Joel Guzman. The performances are all at La Villita and admission is free Saturday through Sunday.
